Swimming and Other People’s Speedos

There are always surprises coming around the corner when you live in a country where you don’t speak the language.  Last night, it was at the swimming pool.  I got changed into my swimming trunks to discover that “Les bermudas sont interdits” which means that “Swimming trunks are forbidden”.  The staff informed me that I needed to wear Speedos and, since I didn’t bring my own, I would be required to use one of theirs.  Laughing at the situation that only I could have, I changed into their Speedos, which were a size too big, and heading into the pool hoping that the chlorine would devour all the microbes that were coating my genitals. 

After I finished swimming I headed to the boys showers to find some girls in the boys shower.  A little taken back, I asked why they were there and they informed me that the girls showers were all full so they had to use these ones.

I may be developing a love-hate relationship with this country.
